Register here to attend to receive a zoom link for the event.
Led by Faissal Sharif, AIUK’s country coordinator for Afghanistan, we will hear from two Afghan youth activists. We will have a panel discussion and a Q&A.
Join us to find out more about the current situation for women and girls in Afghanistan and actions we can take to support them.
Aziza Akrami is an Afghan social entrepreneur and women’s rights advocate, and the co-founder of Empowered Circle, a women-led health and education initiative supporting Afghan women and children. Her organisation supports primary healthcare, health education, and psychosocial support in underserved communities, reaching thousands of women and families across Afghanistan. Her work centres on advancing women’s rights, community wellbeing, and sustainable, locally driven impact under conditions of ongoing restriction and crisis.
Satayesh is a young artist and activist from Herat, Afghanistan, working on women’s rights and youth rights. Following the Taliban’s ban on education, she was denied the opportunity to pursue further studies. Through graffiti and photography, she documents erased messages of resistance in public spaces, giving visibility to silenced voices and everyday acts of defiance.
All welcome to join us at the Quaker Meeting House
Please be aware that in order to ensure safety for Satayesh, the event should be communicated internally within Amnesty networks only.

Leaving Afghanistan: The Realities
Please join us for an opportunity to meet Faissal Sharif, Amnesty UK Country Coordinator for Afghanistan, to hear him speak about the incredible challenges of his lived experience growing up as an Afghan refugee in Germany.
Hear Faissal’s insights not only into the situation in Afghanistan and why his family had to leave, but also more broadly into the challenges faced by many refugees forced to leave their home country and seek asylum elsewhere. This is likely to involve stressful and difficult decision-making, often harrowing journeys, perhaps having your close relatives scattered in different places across the world and adjusting to an alien culture while also facing racial prejudice.
Faissal’s experiences and reflections will be valuable for anyone working with and supporting refugees here in the UK, as well as those campaigning for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.
The webinar is open to all Amnesty and other human rights activists.
