Serious human rights violations are being committed in East Asia.  Restrictions to freedom of expression, use of excessive  force, arbitrary detention, use of the death penalty, and the treatment of refugees all continue to be human rights concerns across the region.  Each year, China executes more people than anywhere else in the world and most East Asian governments continue to apply the death penalty.
