There is ongoing concern that human rights in India are coming more and more under threat from the actions of the Hindu nationalist Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Amnesty Taunton has been opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens which undermine the secular nature of its country, as enshrined in its constitution. The group has also been campaigning to secure the release of the so called Bhima Koregaon 9 in Maharashtra state. As lawyers and academics, they have worked to defend the rights of India’s most marginalised people and Amnesty International considers them prisoners of conscience.
